Setting the mouth back in this manner also allowed me to space the dovetails a pleasing three/three. It is more usual for an infill plane of this size to have three on the rear, two up front. Though I once held a 10" Norris box mitre plane that only had a single dovetail forward of the mouth! It was in fine shape too, god only knows how after 140 years.
